How we check this

The rules we hold ourselves to, including what we do when we cannot confirm something.

Each rule on this site lives in one place with the citation, the official Colorado page it was read on, and the date it was read. Pages quote that entry rather than restating the law in their own words, so a change is made once.

What counts as a source

The Colorado General Assembly, the Colorado Judicial Branch, the Division of Insurance, the Department of Transportation, the State Patrol and the Office of the State Controller. Law firm blogs, aggregators and encyclopaedias are not sources; at most they help us find a section number that we then confirm.

What we do when we cannot confirm something

We flag it. Colorado does not publish freely readable statute text — the state’s own search sits behind a commercial database — so some rules that are perfectly well known could not be read on an official page. Those appear with a review flag instead of a verification date, and they are listed as outstanding internally until they are resolved.

We would rather show you a flag than a confident sentence we cannot stand behind.

What we do not publish

Settlement averages. Claim value formulas. Statistics we cannot trace to a published dataset. Anything that implies an outcome.

Corrections

Errors are corrected and logged on the corrections page with the date and what changed.
